BCLA Helps A Desperate Mother

How Legal Aid Helped a Mother of 4 in Need

BCLA represented a mother of four children in the prosecution of her Petition for Protection Against Domestic Violence. The Petitioner came to BCLA after she was beaten by her husband, strangled, and left unconscious.

She had previously filed Petitions for Protection but dropped them after being persuaded by her husband and his family. At the time she dropped the previous petitions, she was unrepresented by counsel and felt she had nowhere to go. She was convinced by her husband and his family that she could not make it on her own with four young children. She also believed her husband was sorry and that he would change.

With the help of BCLA, a permanent injunction was entered. After entry of the injunction, BCLA helped the petitioner obtain much-needed services for herself and her children. BCLA continues to mentor the petitioner and is representing her in a Petition for Dissolution of Marriage.
